Alycia learned how to read mostly by her mother reading her bedtime stories every night. Before being tucked in Alycia would go and choose a book for her mother to read to her before bed. Alycia also would go to the Chippewa River District Library with her siblings whenever she could convince her parents to take her. The rest of her siblings would only borrow a few books but she would always have a bag full that she wanted to take home. Alycia liked reading because it was fun and exciting to be able to a "big kid thing". Now she likes to read for the stories and the enjoyment. People read because they want to pass time, enjoy it, and to gain knowledge. Other times people read because they get hooked on a story and they want to know how the story ends; even if they have to wait for the next book to come out. There is no such thing as a good or bad reader; anyone can read if they have a book and time. For Alycia reading is easy when she is able to really get into a book and want to finish it as fast as she can. When this happens she will read the book every spare chance she gets in order to finish it sooner and know the ending. Reading a book is hard for her when it's not interesting to her and she has to force herself to get through the whole book. Alycia chooses a book by pulling book off the shelf and reading the summaries on the back of the books. If the book seems interesting with an ending that wraps up the whole story then its a good book to her. Alycia reads at home when she has spare time to relax and enjoy the book. Alycia overall enjoys reading books whether they be short stories or a series of books.
Alycia first learned how to write by starting with the letters in the alphabet in kindergarten. Her teacher Mrs. Neff would give everyone worksheets to help the students to learn how to draw the letters. After she had that down and knew how to draw every letter in the alphabet Mrs. Neff moved on to making the letters into words. Eventually Alycia was able to write basically every word she knew so she started to focus on her spelling the words correctly. Some poeple write because they enjoy doing so and like that they can create something great from nothing at all. Sometimes people write because they are authors and they made a career out of creating stories. Not everyone can become an author just by knowing how to write though; they have to be a good writer. In order to write well they would need to understand the English language and how it works, how to read and write, and be able to create terrific stories that people would actually want to read. Alycia enjoys writing short stories however she tends to never finish them. When deciding what exactly to write about Alycia waits for an idea to come to her which could be anything from aliens to a simple story about a person. She finds ideas on what to change and compliments about her work the most helpful to her but not criticism. Alycia writes throughout the day through text messages and notes and occasionally school essays. Most of the time Alycia feels good and proud about what she writes.
